Round 3, fight.

While this is PS's fourth incarnation, this is the third time it's duking it out with the Xbox. And while PS2 vs Xbox proved an easy fight for the Sony console, the 360 arguably won the second round, despite the inconvenience of Xbox Live. So this round seems to be the one to determine the winner, and though it's still early to be accurate, PS4 is the clear favourite so far.

Some of you might remember my disappointment with One's reveal. No backwards compatibility, games getting tied to your account (so effectively you can't borrow, lend or rent games), developers getting encouraged to develop titles heavily reliant on "always online" features, mandatory kinect...

I've had time to mull it over, and apply cold, calculating logic where rage was reigning concerning the One. On a last, bitter note, I ended my post about XBO with "Buy a PC instead". Unfortunately, that is still my verdict.

The Xbox One tried to be a bastardized version of a next gen console combined with a family friendly platform, trying to beat both the PS4 and the Wii U. It fails on both accounts. If you really want me to elaborate on that, you'll have to scroll down or click here. The last bitter thing I have to say about it, is that with Windows 8 and Xbox One being the most recent things coming out of Microsoft, someone seems to be consistently dropping the ball over there.

The PS4, however, despite similarities (they both have very similar hearts beating underneath the chassis, for one, and the chassis itself follows the same two-tone glossy/matte motif), stands as the clear winner right now. And it's all about the attitude. It's not promising anything otherwordly. But it is promising the things gamers want from their console.

The PS4 has no always online guideline. It has no restrictions to buying or selling second hand games, let alone lending and borrowing. It still has no backwards compatibility, but Sony are actually working to implement some sort of pseudo-compatibility via streaming older games from the PSN. Sony are squarely aiming this product at gamers, and my estimation is, they're going to embrace it despite any minor flaws that may come up later on. The Xbox One simply has a "deal with it" attitude that is not going to fly. At least not for non-fanboys.

If you absolutely want to get a console, no matter how much you love your Xbox, don't buy One. There's no reason to buy One if you can get a PC or a Wii U instead. And you crave the simplicity of current gen consoles with next gen games, there's no reason not to get a PS4 instead. The truth is, the Xbox One will still have some franchise exclusivity (such as Halo), but that will not be worth buying it. With PS4 launching at just under 400 dollars or euros (and 349 GBP), you're better off getting a PS4.

I know I will, eventually.
